Privacy Policy for Balades
Last updated: 26 May 2026
App: Balades
Developer: Simon OIRY

Balades is a mobile application designed to help users record hiking tracks, view trails on a map, create new trails, attach photos, and upload trail data to a hiking server selected by the user.
This Privacy Policy explains how Balades collects, uses, stores, and shares data when you use the application.
1. Who we are
Balades is developed by Simon OIRY.
The app is designed to help users record, create, view, and manage hiking trails.
2. Data collected or processed by the app
Depending on the features you use, Balades may collect or process the following types of data:
-
Location data
Used to display your position on the map and record hiking tracks. -
Background location data
Used only when you actively start recording a hike, so that the app can continue recording your track when the phone is locked or when the app is running in the background. -
Trail and GPX data
Including route coordinates, timestamps, elevation, distance, duration, trail title, description, and related metadata. -
Photos
Used only when you choose to attach pictures to a trail. -
Server connection data
Such as the server URL and authentication information needed to connect the app to the hiking server selected by the user. -
Technical data
Such as app errors or diagnostic information, if needed to maintain app stability and fix bugs.
3. How we use your data
Balades uses this data to provide the core functions of the app:
- Record hiking routes.
- Save routes as tracks or GPX files.
- Display your current location on a map.
- Display recorded or downloaded trails.
- Create, edit, and organize hiking trails.
- Attach photos to trails when you choose to do so.
- Upload trails, GPX files, and photos to the server selected by the user.
- Calculate or display trail information such as distance, duration, elevation, and route geometry.
- Maintain app functionality, stability, and security.
4. Location data and background use
Balades uses location data for hiking and trail-recording features.
Location access is needed to record a route and display the user’s position on the map.
When you start recording a hike, Balades may continue collecting location data in the background. This allows the app to keep recording a complete GPX track even when the phone is locked or when the app is not visible.
Background location recording is active only while a hike recording is in progress.
Location recording stops when you stop the hike recording.
5. Photos and media
Balades may access photos or media files only when you choose to attach a picture to a trail or upload an image.
The app does not access your photos for advertising purposes.
6. Data storage
Data may be stored locally on your device. This can include recorded tracks, app settings, cached information, and server connection settings.
If you connect Balades to a hiking server and choose to upload a trail, the uploaded trail data, GPX files, and photos are stored on that server.
The server may be operated by you, by your organization, or by another service provider depending on the server URL you configure in the app.
7. Data sharing
Balades does not sell your personal data.
Data may be shared only in the following situations:
-
With the hiking server selected by the user
When you choose to upload trails, GPX files, or photos. -
With map or routing services
When required to display maps, calculate routes, or retrieve route/elevation information. -
With technical service providers
If crash reporting, diagnostic, hosting, or security services are used to operate or maintain the app. -
When legally required
If disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law or a valid legal request.
8. Third-party services
Balades may rely on third-party or external services for some features, such as:
- Map display.
- Route calculation.
- Elevation retrieval.
- Server hosting.
- Crash diagnostics.
These services may process technical or usage data according to their own privacy policies.
The exact services used may depend on the configuration of the app and the server selected by the user.
9. Data deletion
You can delete locally stored app data by using the app’s available options, clearing the app data from your device settings, or uninstalling the app.
If you have uploaded data to a hiking server, you should delete that data from the server interface or contact the server administrator.
Data stored on a server is controlled by the operator of that server.
10. Data security
We take reasonable measures to protect data processed by Balades.
However, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure.
Users should ensure that any server connected to the app is trusted and properly secured.
11. Children’s privacy
Balades is not specifically designed for children.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
If you believe that a child has provided personal data through the app, please contact us so that appropriate action can be taken.
12. User rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to:
- Access your data.
- Correct your data.
- Delete your data.
- Restrict processing of your data.
- Object to processing.
- Request portability of your data.
To exercise these rights for data stored locally, you can manage or delete the data directly from your device.
For data uploaded to a server, you should use the server’s available tools or contact the server administrator.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time.
Any changes will be published on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
